The Digital Search for Education

Connecting with students online when they begin considering schools isn't an impossible feat.

With a digital-first student body, it's important for educational institutions to show up during a student's crucial school research period. Making the right connections during this period can be the difference between being a preferred school or not being considered at all. But how do colleges and career schools meet these prospective students online? By knowing more about how they search for education. 

G/O Digital conducted a survey of more than 1,500 current students in graduate, bachelor's and two-year programs to see exactly how they decided on the school they currently attend. With responses from students in programs ranging from doctorate to CCE credits, the results paint a clear picture of how these different students in all age brackets find and choose their educational programs and colleges.

Some highlights from the research:

  • Search engines reign supreme for search
    • 53 percent of students surveyed went to search engines most often when researching schools
  • Students will leave a school's site if has non user-friendly navigation
    • 32 percent of students surveyed left a school's site due to poor navigation
  • Facebook's influence towers over other social channels
    • 62 percent of students surveyed would follow an educational institution on Facebook over any other social channel
